The phenomenon of soup diets has fascinated the world since you can eat as much as you want and still lose 8-10 pounds in two weeks. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it?

This is a diet known as the hospital cabbage diet.

Namely, American cardiologists recommended their patients to lose weight before major surgeries, which consisted of a variety of vegetable soups. Within 14 days, patients melted up to 10 kg. The soup diet contains very few calories, a total of 35 calories. The soup is liquid, and the liquid, like water, quickly fills the stomach and gives a feeling of satiety. The most important thing about this diet is that you can eat without setting a limit on the amount or number of servings, whenever you are hungry. However, you should maintain a regular diet: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

What’s the recipe for this magic soup?

Different types of vegetables are popular in different countries, so recipes may vary. However, the main criteria in making this soup are to keep it low in calories and make it stewy.

  • 6 larger onion bulbs
  • handful of celery
  • half a medium cabbage
  • one larger green pepper
  • canned tomatoes
Method of preparation:
  • Chop the vegetables and put them in a pot.
  • Pour water into the pot to completely immerse the vegetables.
  • Cook on high heat for 10 minutes.
  • Reduce the temperature and cook over low heat until the vegetables are soft.
  • You can add salt or pepper.

The secret of this soup and its effectiveness lies in the cabbage. Did you know that cabbage is very hard to digest? Our body spends more calories than the cabbage contains, just to digest it. Therefore, it is sometimes referred to as a “negative calorie value” grocery. Because of this great benefit, this diet is sometimes referred to as the cabbage soup diet.

In your diet, besides this soup, you can also eat cooked and fresh vegetables, fruit (except bananas). When it comes to beverages, you are allowed to drink water, mineral water, fruit juices, and tomato juice, green tea, coffee without milk and sugar and kefir. As you can see, this diet is based on as many liquids, fruits, and vegetables as possible.

It is essential to give up alcohol completely during your diet. Also, do not drink alcohol 24 hours before starting the diet. Eating bread, sweets and drinking sodas is not allowed.

As this diet is very low in calories and contains relatively few nutrients and minerals, it is not recommended to stick to it for more than two weeks. If you want to continue this diet, you should take a break of at least 2 weeks.

Although many people complain that after a few days they couldn’t stand the smell and taste of the soup, they admit that the diet was more than effective. Also, as with any other strict diet that involves consuming uniform foods, you should consult with a physician first.

Every diet has its pros and cons.

  • You won’t feel hungry
  • Cheap ingredients and easy preparation
  • You lose weight effectively
  • Low energy and possible weakness
  • Fast boring
  • Due to a large amount of fluids, you will often go to the toilet
  • The weight you melted can quickly come back if you return to unhealthy eating habits.
